  • Key Stage Two Arts Festival

    Tue 27 Feb 2024

    Arts Festival

On Tuesday 19th March, we will be holding our Arts Festival for KS2 pupils. This is an opportunity to showcase the outstanding talent we have in school and celebrate the effort that children have put in over many years to develop their skills in arts subjects. We know that we have many talented musicians, dancers and artists in school because we give out many certificates in our awards assemblies. We would now like to give those children the opportunity to perform.

The Year 5/6 choir and the Year 3/4/5 Cheerleading Club will be performing and we hope to have a range of pupils from KS2 showcasing their talents too. We would like to invite pupils to put their names forward to be on the programme if they meet any of the following criteria:-

    • They have been having lessons to learn to play a musical instrument for a sustained period of time and/or play to the equivalent of Grade 1 or above
    • They regularly attend dance classes and have a performance piece prepared for a show or exam
    • They attend speech and drama classes and have a performance piece prepared for a show or exam

Art work from our talented KS2 artists will be on display during the performance. The performance will take place at 6:30pm in the school hall with arrival from 6:00pm for refreshments and an opportunity to view artwork on display. KS1 and Reception children will already have seen the dress rehearsal which will take place on Monday 18th March and so should not attend in the evening. Tickets for the performance on Tuesday 19th March will be available nearer the time.

If your child is interested in performing and has a piece/dance prepared, please complete the form on the reverse of this letter and return it to school as soon as possible so that we can organise the programme. If your child requires an accompanist for their piece or will supply a backing track, please indicate on the slip.

Members of the Year 5/6 choir and the Cheerleading club should also indicate on the form whether they are available for the performance.

We are really looking forward to a fantastic evening of music, dance, art and drama and would like to thank you now for all the encouragement and support you give your children with their arts pursuits.

Thank you for your continued support.

    Yours sincerely,

    Mrs A Daniel (Headteacher)

  • RSE Consultation

    Tue 09 Jan 2024

    PSHE/RSE Education

All schools are required by law to consult their school communities on their Relationship and Sex Education Policies and schemes of work. We carried out this consultation when the requirement came into force in 2019 and we adopted the HeartSmart scheme.
As part of our curriculum review process, we have decided that it is necessary to updated our practice as we feel that HeartSmart is no longer meeting our needs. After a significant amount of research, we have decided to adopted a new scheme called Jigsaw. It is widely used in primary schools and is designed for use in faith schools.
We began using the new scheme in September as we do not need to consult on the general PSHE part of it - the vast majority. It is the RSE part that we have to consult on and this is only taught towards the end of the school year.
Relationships Education is statutory in all schools, however sex education is only statutory in secondary schools. At St Mary's, we have made the decision not to teach sex education as part of our RSE, however we need to consider the views of our parents and carers about this decision.
Attached is our draft PSHE/RSE Policy which contains an overview of the DfE requirements and the detail of what is taught in each year group as part of the scheme.
We welcome your questions and comments about the policy and the scheme. To this end we are holding a consultation meeting on Tuesday 23rd January at 2:45pm. We also welcome questions sent in advance if you are unable to attend the meeting. The meeting will be minuted and we will publish the results of the consultation.
Please do take the time to read the policy and the curriculum overview. It will also be published on the school website. Paper copies can be made available from the school office on request.
Feel free to message me directly with any questions or comments.

  • Pupil Learning Meeting

    Fri 21 Oct 2022

    Pupil Learning Meetings

Pupil Learning Meetings will be held on Wednesday 2nd November and on Thursday 3rd November from 3.30 pm until 6.30pm. Pupil books will be available for you to look at and appointments will be held in the school hall. We will be using School Cloud as a booking system. You should have received an email via ParentPay informing you of the booking system. The information is also attached here.
Appointments will run to time as teachers will be using a timer. This is to avoid inconveniencing people with long waits. We understand that sometimes there is a lot to say, but would ask that if you have further questions when the timer runs out, you message your child’s teacher later via Dojo and arrange another opportunity to talk.
We are inviting pupils from Year 3 to Year 6 to the meeting with their parents/carers. This is to help them to engage in their learning and understand their strengths and next steps. It will allow parents/carers, pupils and staff to decide together the best way we can support the children’s learning.
Apart from Year 3 to Year 6 we request that parents do not bring children with them as we do not have the facilities or staff to accommodate them. We thank you for your co-operation in this matter. Car parking will be available in the Church car park. Access into school is through the front door.
If you have any issues booking an appointment, please contact the school office for advice.
