Religious Education in School
At St. Mary's CE we are a Church of England (VA) Primary School enjoying close, positive links with our Church, St Mary the Virgin.
As expressed in our mission statement, we aim to be part of a community in which our ethos and curriculum reflect the Christian principles on which the school was founded.
Faith - Family - Future
Religious Education gives the children an opportunity to explore Christianity in depth. We believe it is also important to learn about Christianity around the world starting locally, thinking nationally and then globally. RE also provides our pupils with time to learn about other world faiths as they develop a sense of fairness and justice for all peoples whatever their background and wherever they live. Our spiritual, moral, social and cultural education reinforces the children's sense of awe and wonder and appreciation of others.
Since 2016, we have adopted the new Blackburn Diocese Syllabus for Religious Education - Questful RE. This includes the exciting new resource, Understanding Christianity, which is based around 'The Big Story' and 'The Big Frieze' artwork by Emma Yarlett.
