Maths at St Mary's
At St Mary's, we believe every child can be a confident and successful mathematician. Our Maths curriculum is built on the principles of mastery — helping pupils develop a deep, secure and adaptable understanding of mathematical concepts.
Through carefully structured lessons, rich problem-solving, and plenty of opportunities to explore, explain and reason, children build strong number sense and fluency. We aim for all pupils to see the beauty and logic of maths, make meaningful connections across topics, and apply their skills creatively in the world around them.
By moving together through small, well-sequenced steps, we ensure that no child is left behind and every child is challenged to deepen their understanding. Our goal is not just to get the right answer, but to understand the “why” behind it — nurturing mathematicians who are curious, resilient and ready for the next stage of their learning journey.

UNCRC Article 28 (right to education) Every child has the right to an education. Primary education must be free and different forms of secondary education must be available to every child. Discipline in schools must respect children’s dignity and their rights. Richer countries must help poorer countries achieve this.
