History
At St Mary’s, we believe that every child should be inspired by the stories of the past and develop a curiosity about the world and the people who have shaped it. Our History curriculum is designed to engage pupils in exploring significant events, individuals and changes over time, helping them to understand how the past influences the present and the future.
Through a rich and varied programme, children build the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to think like historians, asking questions, investigating evidence, and drawing their own conclusions. We focus on developing chronological awareness, critical thinking, and empathy, encouraging pupils to appreciate different perspectives and make meaningful connections across time periods and cultures.
Our approach ensures that every child, regardless of background or ability, has the opportunity to explore history in an exciting and accessible way. From hands-on investigations and storytelling to historical re-enactments and research projects, we aim to bring the past to life. We encourage pupils to be curious, reflective and respectful learners — developing a sense of identity and belonging as they discover the rich tapestry of human history.
